Expert Roundtable “Politics and Religion / Religion and Diplomacy”
Together with the German-Arab Friendship Society (DAFG), the Research Center for Religious Diversity held an expert roundtable on November 6, 2024, in Berlin on the topic of “Politics and Religion/Religion and Diplomacy.” The central question was how a better understanding of the religious dimension of events such as 9/11 or 10/7 can contribute to de-escalation through diplomatic means. Thought-provoking contributions were made by Prof. Dr. Mathias Rohe, head of the Research Center for Religious Diversity at FAU, Prof. Dr. Udo Steinbach, director of the MENA Study Centre at the Maecenata Foundation and a board member of DAFG, and Dr. Ghassan El Masri, research associate at the Research Center for Religious Diversity at FAU. Following this, the topic of “Religion, Politics, and Diplomacy” was discussed in a confidential atmosphere with other experts from various institutions.
